The Best Time To Visit Belize

In Belize, we believe that any time of the year is a perfect time to visit our tropical paradise, but we understand that many visitors have only a limited number of vacation days to enjoy their time here. You'll definitely enjoy yourself no matter when you come to Belize, but we have prepared a brief guide on seasonal activities to help you make the most of your vacation:

Scuba Diving

The crystal clear waters off the coast of Belize make for some of the best scuba diving in the world. During the summer months, the waters are calmer, but there is a wide panoply of marine life to be seen all year round. For those visitors who want to go scuba diving with Whale Sharks, the best time to visit is from March to June.

High Season

As a tropical country, Belize doesn't experience winter like other countries do. Instead, there is a dry season and a wet season. From December to April is the dry season, which coincides with the "high season", when many tourists from America and Canada come to Belize to escape the cold and snow. During this period, the weather is a bit cooler, with a steady and refreshing breeze on most days.

Low Season

Starting in the middle of May, and ranging until about the end of November, the "low season" is when fewer visitors come to the country, resulting in much lower rates on hotels and attractions. Although this is the "rainy season", the rain is intermixed with plenty of sun, and most rainshowers usually last just a couple of hours at the most, and temperatures remain warm and summery.

Nobody likes to have a good time more than the natives of Belize, who celebrate several festivals annually with plenty of dancing, drinking, and playing music. Several Lobster Festivals occur throughout the country, with each locality hosting theirs on a different date, but most occur in June and July.

Another popular event is the International Costa Maya festival, which celebrates the country's heritage with an entire week of parties, live music, fresh seafood, and beauty pageants during the first half of August.

Other popular festivals include St. George's Caye Day, Carnival, Independence Day, the Battle of the Drums, the La Ruta Maya River Challenge, Garifuna Settlement Day, and the ever-popular Toledo Cacao Festival where visitors can sample hundreds of different types of chocolate.
